Wind Maps -Knowing Your Geographical Wind Energy Potential

Before you waste another second researching wind turbine generators, find out if your area has enough wind to justify a wind turbine generator.  These wind maps for your state or region have every area divided into 7 levels.  1 being the lowest wind regions, and 7 being the highest wind regions.  These wind maps usually represent averages that were taken from years of recorded data thereby rendering them far more accurate then one time sample reading from your anemometer (wind speed measuring device) at the planned wind turbine site.  In addition these are measurements taken from 30 meters above ground or higher so they are accurate representations of the wind conditions that a wind turbine at those heights would experience on average.  Granted most micro home/office wind turbines may barely reach 50 feet let alone 30 meters (approx. 90 feet) it can give you a good idea of your area makes a good candidate for a wind turbine generator.  These wind maps can be found all over but this is a particularly good wind map offering 30, 50, 70, and 100 meters above ground.  If you find you're average wind speed is 10 miles an hour or above, you are probably in an area that is worth having some wind turbine generators.
